The Nationals’ current third-base coach Trent Jewett suited up for the Senators and played in only 15 games during his last season, 1990. Jewett batted a measly .156 in 45 at-bats while catching in 14 games.
One year later, Jewett transitioned to coaching as he joined his former manager with the Senators, Marc Bombard, when the Pirates AA squad relocated to Carolina. Also on Bombard’s staff that season was former Sens coach and current Nationals’ minor league pitching coordinator Spin Williams.
Since then, Jewett managed 17 seasons in the minor leagues to a 1178-1165 record before joining Davey Johnson’s coaching staff in DC.
