B-Mets 8, Senators 4

A B-Mets offense intent on exacting some revenge for Thursday night’s no-hitter put up eight runs in the first two innings and held on for an 8-4 rain-shortened win over the Senators.

The B-Mets chased starter Caleb Clay after only 1.2 innings, but by then they already had all the offense they would need. Despite surrendering a deep home run to the first batter he faced, Matt Swynenberg did yeoman’s work for the Senators to stop the bleeding and ease the burden on the bullpen. The team’s long man worked four innings scattering two hits and three walks while striking out two. Swynenberg also helped his cause with a a two-run double in the fourth inning to shrink the deficit to 8-4.

The game was delayed in the top of the seventh after the Senators put runners on first and second base with two outs and Jerad Head up to bat. 39 minutes later the umpires made it official when the rain showed no signs of stopping.

• The word “hot” doesn’t do Anthony Rendon justice right now. In his last four games, the Nationals’ #1 prospect is hitting .600 (9 for 15) with six doubles, one home run, and six RBIs.

• Caleb Clay’s 1.2 innings is the shortest outing by a Senators starter this season.

• With a trip to the DL imminent for Jayson Werth, Eury Perez is reportedly getting the call from the Nationals. No word yet on how that will affect the Senators’ roster but Jerad Head or Jimmy VanOstrand have to be the obvious choices to backfill in Syracuse.
