After I posted yesterday’s Roll Call, I got word that former Senator Chris Rahl signed a contract with the Minnesota Twins’ organization for 2014. The veteran outfielder inked a minor-league deal with an invite to big league camp.
Rahl played two full seasons in Harrisburg batting a combined .285/.333/.439 slash line. In 209 games with the Senators, the William and Mary product rapped 71 extra-base hits and stole 51 bases.
I felt Rahl was passed over for promotion numerous times during 2011 and 2012, so it’s nice to see him get a chance to prove himself in Major League spring training.
Bravo Mick, and congratulations Chris!!! I agree with you – Chris was inappropriately overlooked for a shot at the bigs because of a perceived curveball weakness. We gave a lot of guys a cup of coffee with the Nationals over the past 3 years and Chris should have been one of them. That 2011 club had perhaps the studliest outfield in many years: Rahl .280 BA 53 RBIs 25 SBs / Archie Gilbert .313 BA 12 HRs 46 RBIs 26 SBs / Bill Rhinehart.283 BA 21 HRs 59 RBIs. Would have been nice to keep that unit together for a full season!!!
